Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition - Queensland's Central Meeting Place for Mining and Engineering

Press Release: June 2008

Additional accommodation, flights in time for QME

A With accommodation and flights during Mackay’s Queensland Mining and Engineering exhibition, being held from July 22-24, looking very tight, additional “cruise ship” and other local accommodation in the region, along with flights into the city have been announced.

Two cruise ship “hotels” have been arranged in Mackay during QME, providing luxury-standard accommodation for visitors, while additional capacity has become available in Airlie Beach, about 150 km from Mackay. Daily shuttle buses have been organised between Airlie Beach and QME.

As well as this additional accommodation, Qantas has announced the addition of a twice-daily 100-seat Fokker aircraft service between Brisbane and Mackay.

Soren Norgaard, Reed Exhibitions’ exhibition manager for QME 2008, said these developments would make accommodation and travel arrangements much easier for out-of-town visitors to the exhibition.

“Potential visitors to QME 2008 who had been concerned about the tight availability of accommodation in and around Mackay will find the situation has been significantly eased – although we would still urge those planning to travel to Mackay to get in touch with Mackay Tourism as soon as possible to secure rooms,” he said.
