Press Release: April 2008
MINING 2020 conference to give “big picture” view in conjunction with QME exhibition
A major mining conference will be held in conjunction with the Queensland Mining and Engineering Exhibition in Mackay in late July, giving participants in the central Queensland mining industry important insights into the future of their industry.
QME will be held at the Mackay Showground from July 22-24, with new products, services and displays by suppliers from the region, Queensland, the rest of Australia and overseas.
Organiser Reed Exhibitions will be incorporating the MINING 2020 conference as part of QME 2008 – following its highly successful conference alongside AIMEX 2007 in Sydney last year – covering major themes and issues affecting the mining sector.
Topics at the two-day conference – to be held on July 21 and 22 at the Laguna Whitsundays Resort, just 40 minutes’ drive from Mackay – include:
The future of mining, a "big picture" look at the mining industry and the effect political and community concerns about global warming will have on future demand for Australian resources and raw materials
Staying competitive, a discussion on the challenges facing mining companies and governments in a world that is rapidly changing
Clean coal technologies, and the challenges facing the coal sector
Environmental management
Leading edge research & development in the 21st century
Global and environmental mining trends in key developing markets: China and India
Supply chain management: Improving the coal supply chain through performance-based contracting
Mine automation
Infrastructure issues
Trends in mine communication equipment.
“Reed Exhibitions launched the MINING 2020 concept as part of AIMEX 2007 in Sydney last year, and it proved a very popular value-add for the exhibition,” said Soren Norgaard, Reed Exhibitions’ exhibition manager, mining and construction events.
“As a result of that, we’ve decided to bring the MINING 2020 conference concept to QME 2008.
‘Given the huge investment in the central Queensland region, coupled with the challenges and opportunities facing the industry in the next few years, MINING 2020 will provide some unique insights into the future of mining,” he said.
“In addition, MINING 2020 has been timed to provide delegates with the opportunity to maximise opportunities to participate in the conference, and also to visit QME in Mackay to view the latest equipment, products and services on offer to the mining sector.
“We not only expect a strong showing from local delegates at the conference, but also delegations from China, Russia, India and South America – with considerable overseas interest in our conference/exhibition package,” said Norgaard.
“Given the importance of the central Queensland coal industry in meeting energy demand in markets around the world, we expect a very strong showing from overseas delegations both at MINING 2020 and also at QME 2008.”
QME is part of Reed Exhibitions’ suite of Australian mining and construction exhibitions.
In addition to QME in July, in October 2008 it will present the Goldfields Mining Expo in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, while in August, the National Construction Exhibition (NCE 2008) will be held in Sydney.
Then in September 2009, the NSW Mining & Energy Exhibition (M&E) will be held in NSW’s Hunter Valley. QME and GME will again be held in 2010, with Reed’s major four-yearly mining show AIMEX back in Sydney in September 2011.
